Sharon is the BEST counselor. She really helped me take everything that was overwhelming me, and break it down so it was all manageable. She guided me through my career, relationships, and life. The three things I needed to clean up. The worksheets, books, and guidance she gives really make a difference. She’s a counselor that cares, checks in, and makes sure she’s almost always available. I’d highly recommend Sharon Wilkening!

I received my undergraduate degree from Syracuse University in 1998 after completing an internship at Georgetown Law. I worked in federal law enforcement from 1998-2002 while obtaining my MA in Forensic Psychology from Marymount University. Upon completion of my masters degree, I moved to NY and began working at Lewis County Community Mental Health Center running a youth diversion program for teens who were involved in the criminal justice system and had a mental health diagnosis.

In 2003, I began working as a full-time therapist and soon after started in private practice working with those struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, domestic violence, substance use disorder, and premarital/marital issues.

I have over 16 years in the field of mental health and substance use disorder treatment. I offer a non-judgmental and unbiased perspective, always meeting clients where they are at. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, solutions-focused therapy, strength-based therapy, and motivational interviewing skills to offer the most comprehensive therapeutic experience.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
