Hi and welcome! My name is Tara McClain, MA, LPC and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the great state of New Jersey. I believe in living life in a joyous way, and aim to work with my clients to help them find satisfaction and fulfillment in their lives as well. The relationships I develop with clients are most important. I want you to know that you are understood and feel supported during the counseling process. I know that starting counseling can be a big step, and I am here to provide a caring, nonjudgmental ear while helping you reach your goals.
Do you want me to just listen while you talk things out? Do you want to leave each session with a specific plan of action? Do you need help solving certain problems or making decisions? The treatment modalities I use depend on you and your counseling goals. I most often utilize Cognitive Behavioral, Solution-Focused, Narrative and Client-Focused Therapies.
Treatment with me is very much a collaborative effort, and we will make decisions together so you can feel and be your best.
I have been practicing in a private setting for the past 3 years. I am passionate about my profession, and am excited to meet and learn about how I can assist and support you in this journey!

Online counseling allows you to receive care from a mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Starting at $65 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.

Tara is amazing and helps get my back on track
Tara is the best! I have been in and out of therapy for 40 years, and she is one of the best I’ve ever worked with on my mental health. She is a ray of sunshine; yet very serious about dealing with my problems and leading me towards my goals. I highly recommend Tara and betterhelp classes to tackle all your mental health woes.
I have had several therapists in my lifetime, some better, some worse. Tara shines a light on your problems, with a warmth and kindness that’s unparalleled. She is the best of the best.
Tara has been an amazing therapist! I went through a few therapists until I found her and am so glad I did. Tara really cares, listens, and offers good advice and guidance. Tara is very present and responsive in between and during sessions. I've enjoyed working with Tara and feel like she really understands me and has taken the time to get to know me. Highly recommend Tara as a therapist for anyone!
Tara is super helpful and supportive as a therapist. You can tell she really takes time to respond between sessions. I highly recommend her!
Tara has provided not only a sunny disposition and a depth and breadth of knowledge; but also she has provided a safe space where I feel heard. Anyone would be lucky to work with her in session.
