I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Commonwealth of VA with over 25 years experience working with those challenged with emotional, grief, loss, and life altering and changing experiences that we all face at some point in our lives. Being human is not unique but how one copes and works through difficult experiences is. I have worked with many people of all ages, children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics in a variety of settings with differing challenges. The bottom line is we all struggle and we all deserve an opportunity to grasp the strength inside ourselves, to empower ourselves to move in ways that are more productive, more life affirming and accepting of who we are and where we hope to go.
I utilize methods that suit each individual while addressing needs, but also stretching comfort zones which is how we break out of our routines that got us into the difficulties we experience. It is difficult to ask for help, and reaching out can be very rewarding. I am here when you feel it is your time to reach out.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.
Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Assessment, evaluation and goals are realistic for me
I love Barbara as a therapist! She’s come down on me for rescheduling but for good reasons! I haven’t taken it serious enough so I appreciate her concern and honesty. She’s the best!
Barbara was a phenomenal therapist for me. She was a beautiful fit for what I needed when I needed it. Her attentive listening and gentle guidance helped move me along in a way that felt really good to me. She created a beautiful space for me to explore and process my feelings. She has a warm and kind energy. I looked forward to our sessions. Thank you!
The best therapist I’ve ever had.
I came to Barbara after not connecting with another therapist, and was about to give up on my journey with counseling. From our first meeting I immediately felt revived. She is utmost a professional, but also a real person. She’s trustworthy and skilled. I felt like I received real action items along with meaningful conversation. She is gifted in her range of expertise, experiences, and knowledge. I’d recommend her to anyone.
Barbara is very goal oriented and helped me during a very difficult time in my life. She is good at working with what you need and is very task oriented.
Barbara is engaged and listens. My experience so far has been a game changer in how I feel about therapy and my likelihood of seeking out help in the future. I feel more empowered than ever with the skills she teaches and I look forward to learning more from her.
100% professional, but very warm and inviting. After our first session. I felt like I could tell her anything. After a couple of sessions, I knew it.
I absolutely loved working with Barbara, she helped me navigate through one of the hardest times of my life and get to a point where I could confidently move forward. I really appreciate her guidance and promoting me to consider questions and journaling my answers outside of our sessions. I would 100% recommend her as a therapist.
Barbara Brown is so amazing. She has helped me gain confidence in myself and battle my depression with techniques and exercises that have worked successfully for me. I’m able to reach out to her anytime I need to and she is always there for me. She makes me feel comfortable and secure and I can be vulnerable with her. She has really been a blessing for me in my hardest times and I’m very grateful for her and her compassion, empathy, expertise and knowledge. I plan on continuing care with her for as long as I feel I need it. Thank you Barbara!
Barbara is so wonderful. When I came to her with a goal she really pushed me to stay on topic with that goal. When something else is bothering me she gives that time then she goes and says well how are we doing with this again? She even gives me homework assignments. She has helped me so much.
I was really nervous to start therapy but my therapist is amazing! I feel 100% comfortable talking to her and I look forward to my sessions every week.
She’s help me grow so much in such a short time forever greatful!
