I am a therapist based in Leeds, UK with over 4 years of professional work experience, working face to face, online and by telephone.
I gained my Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling in 2021. https://verify.skillsandeducationgroup.co.uk/?reference=56840861-01-M5G5 and I completed a BSc in Therapeutic Counselling in 2024 https://veri.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/?reference=33997493-01-HY37
I am currently a am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (https://www.bacp.co.uk/search/Register?q=david%20wheatley&UserLocation=53.8023612,-1.5911103 ) and an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (https://ncps.com/counsellors/ncs21-02477 )
I have been in practice since 2019, firstly as a placement student as part of my Diploma and later as a paid practitioner, working privately, with the NHS and through BetterHelp and have over 800 hours of client experience, all of which has been achieved under supervision, with a supervisor I meet every two weeks. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, relationship issues, & coping with grief and loss, espeically around children. I also have experience working with coping with life changes.
I work in a person centred way, and the theory is that as you are the expert on you, I am here to listen while you tell me about what is going on for you. Every therapeutic situation is different, and at the heart of it is the person who wants to be helped. Each of us is unique, so I work with the client, as well as the issue. I will reflect back to you what you have said, reframe it, clarify it. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. You will have a safe space with me to talk about whatever you bring to the session.
If you're looking for help exploring your alternatives, we can do that too, but whatever choices you make will be your own. I'm not going to tell you what to do, but I'm here to listen to what you have to say. This may not be quite what you are after, but you have the autonomy and authority to make choices and decide what you think is best for you. You've already started that by choosing to seek therapy, and that takes courage.
Therapy is a bit like dating, you never know if you will click with a therapist, so if you decide after a number of sessions that I'm not for you, then that's fine. You need to look after what is best for you. If you feel that I am a good match for you, I'll be able to help you on your journey and do what I can do help you get through this point in your life.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.
Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
