More about Lizhen

  • 5 years' experience
  • Female
  • LMFT

As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), I am dedicated to the supporting the well-being of my clients from a Christian perspective, though I welcome all who seek counseling, regardless of religious background. Whether you’re experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, or parenting/marital troubles, I provide a safe place for you to come individually, as a family, or as a couple.

While traditional therapy focuses more on the individual, MFT examines how an individual’s behavior affects both the individual and their relationship as part of a couple or family. The theory behind MFT is that regardless of whether a problem appears to be within an individual or within a family, getting other family members involved in the therapeutic process will result in more effective solutions. MFT is goal-oriented and works toward an established end result. In recent years, MFT practitioners and groups have called for expanded approaches to traditional MFT training that incorporate more “real world” practices to integrate other therapies and become more inclusive of non-heterosexual couples and families.

I would address the behaviors of all family members and the way these behaviors affect not only individual family members, but also relationships between family members and the family unit as a whole. As such, treatment is usually divided between time spent on individual therapy and time spent on couple therapy, family therapy, or both, if necessary.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Lizhen has a beautiful spirit. She has opened my eyes immensely on the very concerns of my heart whilst inviting god into our interactions. Having a therapist who provides warmth as if she is an extended family member really helps me to become vulnerable and have full transparency. I appreciate Lizhen and the lessons she has placed in my mind/heart. You will too!

When I first came to " Better help" I was in a very bad condition. My situation was so hard that I felt like I was loosing my head, my life was falling apart and my marriage was in danger but since the very first video session with Lizhen I started to see some changes. In less than one month she helped me put myself together again. She gave me advices using both spiritual (biblical) and scientific references. Thank to her, I've got my confidence back, I can manage my anger, I have more communication skills related to my specific situation. I know lots of tricks that I get to use almost everyday to deescalate arguments and keep the conversations going. Lizhen is one of the most helpful counselor that I've have ever had the privilege to be assigned to. My wife actually loves the new person that I became. she is my best friend again, our relationship is healthier, my son is happier and my life is way easier right now. Thank you Lizhen Yan
