More about William

  • 21 years' experience

I am licensed in Indiana with 21 years of professional work experience. I have experience working with individuals, couples, and families in several areas of focus, including relationship issues, family conflicts, intimacy related issues, parenting issues, mood disorders, and personality disorders. Though I have significant clinical experience with adolescents and young adults, my focus has shifted over time, and I now work exclusively with couples/marriages, and individual adult clients. My practice is foundationally dependent on Christian principles and, as a result, I’ve been able to incorporate essential faith-based tools (such as grace, forgiveness, humility, self-sacrifice, etc.) to my clinical “toolbox”, alongside established, evidence based treatment modalities, including CBT, DBT, EMDR, et al.

I firmly believe that the first and most important goal of therapy is the creation of a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients. The strength of that relationship is well understood to be the best predictor of successful outcomes. So, you can expect a therapeutic environment in which mutual trust is paramount, thoughts and feelings are shareable without fear of judgment, and authenticity & empathy are essential to the process.

Making the decision to intentionally discuss personal issues with a stranger (regardless of the cryptic letters after their name) can be hard, and even scary. But please don’t think it suggests any kind of “weakness” - it doesn’t, Doing this takes determination and courage, as well as the simple recognition that life is hard, and none of us can do it alone.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
